When we think pimples we automatically think teenager, because they eat junk food, drink pop and are hormonal. Truth is pimples are something that affect us well into adulthood for the same reasons: What we eat.
Certain foods you eat such as pasta, white bread, sugar can raise your blood sugar levels faster than other foods. When that happens it spikes our insulin. Insulins job is to pull the sugar out of your blood and store it. Having too much insulin in your blood can make your oil glands produce more oil. The oil needs to leave and will do so through pimples.
Other foods that have been proven to make acne flare up:
- Dairy (yogurt, cheese, milk)
- Fats (trans fat, fried foods)
- Sugar (pop, candy, chocolate can be terrible for some and not for others)
You see this type of diet with a lot of teenagers hence why they seem to suffer from ACNE the most.
Changing your diet to include more:
Adult acne is frustrating. The cause is the same as when you're a teenager. Excess Oil and bacteria.
The difference is when you are menstruating or pregnant and hormone levels fluctuate. The hormone Androgen (also known as testosterone) can make oil glands erupt, so a lot of women go on the pill to control this. Again, there are other ways to help control hormones which involve FOOD!!
Androgen controls your sensitivity to Insulin - see the connection? Keeping refined carbohydrates out of your diet will greatly decrease your breakouts, keep your skin looking young and fresh and a great benefit to the rest of your body too!
