Mother's Day
Why I want a Spa Day at The Facial Place. - Written by a Mother
I love my children and I love being a Mom, but even writing why I need a break, brings me guilt and I'm not alone in that thought.
We've somehow been conditioned to think we aren't allowed to get a break, that being a mom especially a SAHM (stay at home mom) isn't real work at all. So anytime we dream of being "us" again we are burdened with guilt because - WHY DO YOU WANT TIME AWAY FROM THE KIDS YOU LOVE SO MUCH - YOU MUST NOT LOVE YOUR KIDS.
Mothering and "adulting" in general is hard work. I listen to my teenager daughter excitedly plan her University dreams and while I'm not outwardly saying STOP AND ENJOY BEING A KID CAUSE IT GETS WAYYYYYY HARD... I encourage her excitement and reflect on my own exhaustion, because - it got WAYYYYYY hard.
I spent 10 years at home with my children, I'm one of the lucky ones. Whether you're a SAHM or a Working Mom, it's a lot of work. You lose yourself in your family and everything else you have going on. Then one day you wake up and look in the mirror and you don't recognize yourself anymore. You are just there, existing.
You are constantly touched by children (remember the guilt? this is where is comes) touched in a way that benefits everyone, I get it..... but sometimes you just need less bruising from a jumping toddler or Punch-Buggy knocks from your teens. You want silence. Guilt free silence.
There is no lack of literature, mom-blogs or memes out there to describe a Mom and her desire to feel like a human again.
I started my trek to regular self care, in my option too late. I waited until my children were old enough to stay at home for an hour alone, mostly because I didn't have much choice. Affordability plays a huge role, but I never even thought to ask for "alone time" as a gift.
So burned out pretty quick.
I want a Spa Day because I'm still a woman who wants to feel taken care of, pretty and relaxed and trust me when I tell you - this is good for all involved in my life.
There is nothing more beautiful than a Mom who can appreciate every moment of being a Mom, but we need appreciation too in the form of "self-care". I don't want to start every request with "I love being a Mom but....... I NEED TO FEEL HUMAN AGAIN".
My advice to Moms and anyone out there who is looking for a gift for a Mom, get a Spa Day NOW. It will change your/their life.
The adage a Happy Wife Happy Life holds true and is equally if not more relevant to a Mom. Happy Mom, Happy Kids.
