TOXIC TUESDAY - KIDNEYS

Skin Care & Your Kidneys

The kidneys are powerful chemical factories that perform the following functions:

  • remove waste products from the body
  • remove drugs & chemicals from the body
  • balance the body's fluids
  • release hormones that regulate blood pressure
  • produce an active form of vitamin D that promotes strong, healthy bones
  • control the production of red blood cells
Detoxification is the process of eliminating toxins from the body, blood carries toxins to the Kidneys and if our Kidneys are congested and not functioning properly then much like the Liver, it will simply recirculate the toxins! The kidneys can become damaged through toxic overload and unlike the liver, they do not regenerate.

We all know the importance of reading food labels but have you ever read the ingredients on your skin care?
Have you seen words like Parabens? Talc? Lead? Mercury?
These chemicals are readily available in a lot of personal care products and can linger in your Kidneys which may cause tissue damage.

A few signs your Kidneys may need some help?

- Arthritis and gout
- High Blood Pressure
- Puffiness under the eyes or dark circles
- Acne
- Psoriasis
- Fluid retention
- Swelling of hands and feet
- Eczema

A lot of these symptoms people blame on tiredness, stress or age - when in fact you may need to detox!

How To Detox Your Kidney

  • Avoid chemicals in your personal care products. Use Organic whenever possible - like Eminence Organics Products which are available at The Facial Place.
  • Drink a lot of water. This is extremely important!! Drinking a lot of clean water will help the Kidney function properly by purging toxins.
  • When you are losing weight your fat cells release toxins (a percentage of toxins are stored in your fat cells) you must remember to drink enough water to expel these toxins or they will recirculate!
  • Exercise. Sweating can help expel extra salt and calcium from sitting in the Kidneys - again increasing the need for water but this will take some of the pressure off the Kidneys.
  • Do Body Scrubs and salt baths that will help pull toxins from your skin to help ease the pressure off your other organs.
  • Kidney's love GINGER! Incorporate some fresh ginger in your cooking or have Organic ginger tea.
  • Don't over do the Protein! Protein in any form be it meat or protein powder is very taxing for the Kidneys.
  • Limit or stop consuming refined sugars.
  • Foods: garlic, apples, cranberries, blueberries, cauliflower, olive oil, onions, red grapes, cherries.
  • Check with your local health food store for detoxing teas! Stay away from "instant" detox packages unless you are seeing a Nutritionist or Health Care provider who recommends them. These systems cause such a strong detox which can be damaging - always start slow!
  • Remember to always check with your Health Care provider before making any changes to your health care.
